Toto je pouze velmi stručné shrnutí základních velmi náročných znalostí a dovedností. Podkovář specialista dle dlouholetých zkušeností chovatelů, podkovářů a veterinárních lékařů ošetřuje ve spolupráci s veterinárními lékaři a chovateli cca 80% kulhajících koní. Odborník s touto kvalifikací však přímo ovlivňuje kvalitu života a mnohdy rozhoduje přímo o dalším využití nebo utracení koně. Je zde velmi nezbytná úzká spolupráce s veterinárními lékaři a chovateli a majiteli koní. Výuka a samozřejmě i zkouška podkováře specialisty je velmi náročná na odborné znalosti z anatomie, fyziologie a patologie distální části končetiny koně, s důrazem na praktickou výuku všech onemocnění, které je možné podkovářsky řešit.
