UNIVERSITA VETERINÁRNÉHO LEKÁRSTVA
FARRIER SCHOOL LTD. (PODKOVÁŘSKÁ ŠKOLA s.r.o.)

Project applicant is the Farrier School, Ltd., which provides education in two-year lifelong learning courses that correspond to the National Qualifications Framework, namely the Farrier Assistant (41-039-E) and Euro-Farrier (41-031-H). It started its activity in 2009 because of the absolute absence of quality education for farriers. The head of the school, Jindřich Vinčálek, is also an accredited person for the examination of the above mentioned qualifications as well as the Farrier Specialist (41-040-M) qualification. The accreditation is valid for the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic and EFFA (European Federation of Farriers Associations).

In addition to continuous farrier training, the school organizes farrier seminars and workshops. Each year there are one to two farriery workshops with foreign lecturers and regular smaller seminars with lecturers from the Czech Republic. Active cooperation takes place with the professional Farrier's Trade Association, the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno and the Veterinary Clinic in Heřmanův Městec.

Requirements for qualification Farrier specialist were formulated by the Sector Council for Agriculture and in the training project Euro-farrier (CZ.1.07 / 3.2.10 / 02.0047) a pilot syllabus was drawn up and pilot courses were tested. Based on the findings, the Sector Council was asked to revise the entire professional qualification with much higher demands. The curriculum and study materials have not yet been created for the approved revised qualification.

INVOLVEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS IN THE PROJECT

The staff of the Clinic of Horses at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice (Slovakia) focuses on the pathology of the horse's limbs and hooves.

The staff of the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest (Hungary) focuses mainly on the anatomy, histology and physiology of horses and hooves.

We see the benefits of international cooperation in the different focus of individual institutions - Farrier School s.r.o. is focused on farrier practice, while the staff of both involved veterinary universities focus more on diagnosis of orthopedic problems of the horse's limbs and treatment.
